Occupational First Aid Level 3
The WorkSafeBC Occupational First Aid Level 3 course is designed for remote worksites or employers with large workforces located more than 20 minutes surface travel time from medical aid.
To qualify for the OFA Level 3 course and subsequent certification, a person must be at least 16 years old and have the physical ability to perform first aid skills required to complete the learning tasks. No previous first aid training is required.
Certification for the OFA level 3 course requires full participation and course attendance. Candidates must demonstrate practical skill competency and achieve 70% on a multiple choice exam. Upon successful completion, the participant will receive certification that is valid for three years.
The duration of the Occupational First Aid level 3 course is 70 hours over 10 classroom days. Universal Health and Safety offers an ideal learning environment with well-appointed facilities and clean and comfortable floors for the hands-on portions of the course. The facility is conveniently located near Gilmore SkyTrain station.
The procedures will follow the guidelines described in the Occupational First Aid Reference and Training Manual.
The participant will be able to demonstrate:
- Basic life support (CPR-A)
- Patient assessment
- Critical airway and respiratory, interventions with C-Spine management, including insertion of oral airways, use of oxygen therapy equipment and bag valve mask
- Circulatory interventions and management
- Small wound, soft tissue, and fracture management
